Print Matters is a biannual salon dedicated to the creative and historical world of western art in the realization of a book.

The earliest origin of artist books and production has flourished in Europe since the medieval period such as the Book of Kells, which dates between the 6th and the 9th century. Mostly in Ireland, Scotland and England the Kells and its historical form, symbolism and mythological narrative placed a significant influence on 18^th century artists. It's aesthetic and representational form flourished as the new expression, material and apparatus for visionary artists such as William Blake to merge image and handwritten text. This eventually gave birth to the phenomena of artists’ books, self-publishing and single edition objects formally known as book art.

Sourced interstate and abroad general store is pleased to showcase a diverse variety of artists’ books, book art and other printed matter in Sydney. Over a period of two weeks a collection of rare and limited edition handcrafted works of art from printmaking to self published, journals to zines, comics to catalogues, paper sculpture and other printed matter written, illustrated, printed, conceptualized, framed, sculpted, collage and bound will be on display.

Print Matters is primarily a celebration of the artists’ books passed on knowledge and craftsmanship through the pages of time and history. A celebration of it’s form and visual achievements, its physicality, its growth of conceptualization. But more importantly faced with the peril of technology this ancient method has continued to redefine, fascinate and imbue new contemporary forms of communication.

These desirable objects of the personal and the intimate will be on display and for purchase by the genuine book art collector and lover of artists books and other forms of printed matter.
